So, I joined this creativity cult club I stumbled upon. I have maybe… three friends. Four, if we’re counting this girl I met in passing at an apothecary (who reached out to me on IG — pre-boycott — and struck up a conversation).
It’s really cool! For the next four months, we will meet every two weeks, and interact in our private group chat to focus on our creative lives and projects. The cult leader set up this experience to help herself and the members to, “focus on getting into a supportive routine, engaging in exercises and activities that help break up our stagnation, overwhelm, procrastination, and perfectionism, and taking action with small daily, doable steps.” Which, woo-baby do I need that. I figured it would be a great way to explore my creativity, focus on my creative project (writing), and make new friends. You can read more about it, here.
I joined three days ago (my partner was so sweet and got me this membership as a birthday present) and it’s already helped me so much. The exercises we’ve done have opened up new doors for me. They’ve made me realize where my woes are when it comes to creativity; hell, they’ve made me realize I AM creative! That shocked the hell outta me.
So, day three arrives — I come up with this really fun idea for my writing while my partner and I are playing guitar and singing. Seeing him riff on the guitar inspired me in the moment to make this series — which, I want to feature you in.
Over my journey of trying to heal my wounds and embody life lessons, I’ve learned that everyone has different truths; those core truths we believe in, that cause us to react in certain ways when they get crossed, or betrayed, if you will. I want to document people’s truths and make a series of them. I also want to see which ones I disagree with and see what others think. This series will feature truths people submitted, truths I’ve observed/overheard, truths I hold, and truths I disagree with and why. I have no idea what I’m going to call it. I have some ideas but… I need help deciding. If you want, you can either vote on the name you like at the bottom of this post, or leave a comment with a suggestion. Or, both, if you’re feeling fancy.
I say I want you featured in it because I want to hear your truths. What things do you believe in 100%? What do you believe is right vs wrong? For instance, a truth for me is: it’s possible to hold two conflicting emotions, at once. I feel both content and sad that I have few friends. Content because I’ve always been a bit of a loner (which I like), so I enjoy being alone and in few company, but also, sad because the few friends I do have, are all long distance, so I seldom see them.
I want to know a truth you hold. Or, three truths you hold. They can be truths like, you believe OJ definitely murdered Nicole, or you believe plain Cheerios are good, or you believe cheating is immediate cause for breaking up. Any truth where you’re like, “I’ll die on that hill”. But I also want to know why. Why do you believe that? What makes you say that’s true? Where did it come from? Is it from personal experience, or was it given to you?
For me, I like to believe I’m here to observe. Observe the experience of being a human from my perspective, but also others’ as well. Which, I guess would explain why I love to people watch and listen to strangers’ conversations at the bar. Or I’m just nosy… But anywho.
I want to give you the chance to speak your truth. Maybe, I’ll make this series have different themes of truths like political truths, movie truths, relationship truths, etc. This could be like a bi-weekly feature where each week will have a theme!
If you’re interested in having your truths heard + talked about, list them out here.
If I pick one of your truths to write about, I’ll gift you a subscription to Thoughts by Another Human. Fuck it.
Maybe this a chance to figure out your truths.
Maybe this is a chance to dig into your truths.
Maybe this is a chance to have your truths heard.
Whatever this is, if you’re interested in submitting a feature, submit here.
I wonder where this will go? I feel like this will be fun! But… I guess we’ll see.
Thank you for giving me the chance to experience your world.
…
+ as always,
much love + healing,
eb
